After a short break (1 full day) Mark and Dan where back in the village ready to fly into Plateau to attempt Mt Cook. After the training week last week, Rob Dunn joined us to bring up the guiding ratio to 1:1 needed for Mt Cook. The forecast for Tuesday was good but with the snow from the weekend not sure what conditions would be like. Conditions ended up with lots of new snow that had settled but not enough to support our weight so a long morning up the Linda glacier with snow shoes was the result. We still made good time and the sun come up on Tasman when we had just crossed the Linda Shelf.
It was a busy day on Cook with 7 parties leaving the hut but it did help with the trail breaking in the deep snow.
With a fit private party out in front doing almost all the trail breaking on the upper mountain we had a good line of tracks to follow.
Perfect weather on the summit with very light winds and warm. We ended up spending quite some time taking photos and checking out the view, plus photos for Dave and Paul another Alpine guides trip.
With the longer term forecast turning to wind and rain we left Plateau hut for rock climbing.
Great 2 weeks with Mark and Dan, what next Mt Aspiring?
